Introducing Serres Sylva® Suction bag: The Next-Generation of Surgical Suction

Serres is proud to introduce Serres Sylva®, a next-generation surgical suction bag designed to reduce operating room waste while maintaining the highest standards of safety and clinical performance in fluid management.

Serres Sylva represents an important step in our ongoing commitment to combining environmental sustainability with forerunning surgical fluid management solutions.

Serres Sylva ® Suction bag – Supporting Hospitals in their Sustainability Goals

The next-generation Serres Sylva Suction bag has been developed in response to the growing need for more sustainable healthcare solutions. Together with the current Serres Suction system and Serres Nemo, Sylva reflects our commitment to helping hospitals in their journey to net-zero.  

Surgical suction is essential for maintaining clear visibility and safe operating conditions. At the same time, fluid collection contributes significantly to plastic waste. Serres Sylva® Suction bag has been developed to reduce this burden. This means:

  • 20% less waste compared to standard Serres Suction bags
  • Up to 40% less waste compared to commonly used single-use soft suction bags, thanks to its thin, material-efficient design

For a hospital using 100,000 suction bags annually, switching to Serres Sylva® can reduce plastic waste by approximately 1.3 tons per year compared with standard Serres Suction bags, or up to 3.5 tons when compared with commonly used single-use soft suction bags. Sustainability considerations also extend beyond the product itself:

  • The dispenser box is made from 90% recycled materials
  • The transport box contains 75% recycled content

Both packages and their labels are designed to integrate seamlessly with existing recycling streams, supporting responsible end-of-life handling.

In the operating room, reliability and efficiency are critical. Serres Sylva® is designed for intuitive use: one connection allows quick setup, while patented folding features and clear size markings on both bags and packaging help streamline preparation.

Sylva integrates seamlessly with the trusted Serres Suction system, combining reusable and single-use elements, and is compatible with existing Serres suction accessories as well as the Serres Nemo surgical fluid disposal device. This ensures workflow continuity while enabling more sustainable fluid collection and disposal.

Safety remains fundamental. Serres Sylva is manufactured from carefully selected materials – free from PVC, latex, and DEHP, and meeting strict clinical standards to protect both patients and healthcare professionals.
